For men an informal way to find your correct size on a road bike is to measure in centimeters your upper body between your navel and your larynx and add 8 cm. This measurement should come close to the top tube size on the chart below . New sloping top tube designs called compact frames allow better fit for a variety of leg lengths.

For women that measurement should be between navel and your larynx and add 7 cm . However because an average woman's legs and arms can be proportionally longer, moving up one frame size larger is sometimes suggested.
